Methodology
Service zones were downloaded or traced. The 2025 population estimate for all census tracts served by each service was summed; for partially-served tracts, the proportion of population equal to the proportion of area served was added. Since microtransit zones are drawn to serve denser areas, this will be a systematic undercount. For instance, the service zone for Milpitas SMART is estimated at 77,365, while the official 2025 census population estimate is 78,596.
